  3.   Next,  let's  find the oil dipstick.  
  4. It will be  sticking  up  in  the  air
  5. somewhere between the engine  and  the
  6. radiator.  It generally has a hole for
  7. your finger.  (Look at the drawing  of
  8. the dipstick).  Have a paper towel  in
  9. your hand and pull the dipstick up and
  10. out of its pipe.   Wipe  the  end  off
  11. with the towel and  reinsert  it  back
  12. into the pipe.  Pull it back  out  and
  13. read the level of the  oil.    (Again,
  14. look at the drawing).  The level  will
  15. show up indicating the depth of oil in
  16. your engine.  Keep  it between the two

  22. marks indicated.  Never check your oil
  23. if you have just  stopped the  engine.  
  24. Wait at least 30 minutes for  the  oil
  25. to drain back out of the  engine  into
  26. the oil pan.  If you must check it  at
  27. that time, remember there is at  least
  28. half a quart of oil in the engine  and
  29. the level is actually higher  than  it
  30. shows.  The best time to check oil  is
  31. in the morning or when the engine  has
  32. been stopped for several hours.    You
  33. don't have to worry about burning your
  34. hands and the readings on the dipstick
  35. will be accurate then.
